The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Mrs Natasha Akpoti, seeking the nullification of the re-election of Yahaya Bello in the last governorship election in Kogi State.
The apex court seven-man panel, led by the Chef Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, in a unanimous judgment on Monday, dismissing the appeal for lacking in merit.
In the judgment delivered by Justice Uwani Abba Aji, the court upheld the concurrent decisions of the tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
Both bodies had upheld Governor Bello’s victory at the election which was held on November 16, 2019.
The judgement stated that SDP and its candidate failed to provide credible and substantial evidence to support their appeal.
The Supreme Court, in an earlier judgment today, also dismissed the appeal by the PDP and its candidate, Musa Wada against Bello’s reelection.
