Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Brazilian superstar Neymar has signed a new long-term contract with the club that promises to keep him at Parc des Princes until 2025.

Neymar became the most expensive player in history when he joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a world record transfer fee of €222m and has cited his ambition to win the Champions League with the French giants as a major motive in pledging his future to the club.

“I am very happy, very happy to extend with Paris,” the 29-year-old told PSG.FR.

“The truth is that I am very happy to stay here for many years, to participate in the club’s project, to win titles there, to realise our biggest dream which is the Champions League. So I’m happy to stay at the club, to be part of its history and to extend my contract.”

Neymar’s new contract rumoured to be worth €30m per season, as well as including a lucrative Champions League bonus if PSG do eventually get over the line in Europe.

Neymar was keen to leave PSG and return to Barcelona in 2019, but the player has become more settled since then and now feels a strong affinity with the club that has developed over his four years in the French capital to date.

“In four years, I have changed a lot, I have learned a lot,” he explained.

“Things also happened that shouldn’t have happened. We had fights, a few sad moments, but the evolution within the club has been great. I am happy, I am proud to be part of the history of Paris Saint-Germain. And then, I think I improved as a person, as a human being, as a player too.

“So I’m very happy to extend, to be part of Paris history and I hope to put even more trophies on the Paris Saint-Germain shelf.”

PSG attention will now turn to tying Kylian Mbappe   down to a similarly long-term contract. The 2018 World Cup winner, like Neymar until this new deal, has a contract until 2022.
