Barcelona has shelled out almost £47million to land Manchester City star Ferran Torres. The Spain international will return to his homeland just 18 months after joining the Citizens from Valencia. Barca has handed the forward a five-year deal and will also have to stump up another £8.5m in add-ons.
The fee for Torres is even more remarkable given the fact the Catalan giants are in a dismal financial situation after the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The club was forced to take a bank loan to get the deal over the line but clearly believes the player is worth big bucks.
And it has now been revealed that Torres’ contract at the Nou Camp includes a buyout clause worth an extraordinary €1billion (£842m).
The current record transfer remains the £198m Paris Saint-Germain spent to sign Neymar back in 2017.
Torres excelled during his short stint at City and racked up 16 goals in 43 games.
