Chelsea has announced that club legend and former Aston Villa assistant coach, John Terry, will be returning to the club as a coaching consultant within the club’s academy.
Terry’s role will concentrate on working with young players and coaching staff at the club where he forged such an illustrious career.
Terry played more than 700 games for Chelsea and during his 19 years at the club, he won five Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one Europa League, and one Champions League.
His choice of role draws several parallels to the route that current head coach Steven Gerrard pursued after his playing career.
Like Terry, Gerrard returned to the club where he achieved legend status in order to work within the academy. In January 2017, Gerrard was appointed as a youth coach at Liverpool and took charge of the under-18s for the 2017/18 season after impressing Jurgen Klopp with his work ethic and coaching.
