Pep Guardiola has claimed the Premier League title race is far from over despite Manchester City establishing an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

City’s 1-0 win at Brentford on Wednesday, coupled with Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at home to Brighton and Liverpool’s defeat at Leicester, has left Guardiola’s side with a sizeable advantage heading into the new year.

The Reds, who are currently third are nine points behind the leaders do have a game in hand.

Whilst their rivals have struggled for consistency of late, particularly over the grueling festive period, City has found form at just the right time, winning their last 10 league games in succession.

“We were 4-0 up [against Leicester] and in 20 minutes we were 4-3 three days ago. All of you, thank you for your nice words because we win but I’m not going to believe any of the words you’re going to say if you think it is already done.

“Chelsea and Liverpool are more than exceptional – one is the European champions and Liverpool have been our big rival for years.
